I love a good self-portrait, thus I'm happy to have a Self Portrait Project. As the photographer, sometimes a self-portrait is the only way I find myself in the frame. And I feel like they often get a bad wrap. It's easy to say they are narcissistic and conceited. One step up from a "selfie."
I disagree. They document who we are at a point in time in our lives, and if we feel compelled to get in front of the camera, then there's a good reason to embrace it. Maybe it's therapy. Maybe it's so your kids have a picture of you someday. Maybe it's simply because we deserve to be on record as much as the subjects we usually photograph.
