Emotions - June

Breakfast with Laura

There is only one way to feel about my friendship with my dear friend, and that is:

1. Warmly or deeply appreciative of kindness or benefits received <I am grateful to you for your help>
2. Expressing or actuated by gratitude <a grateful letter>
3. Pleasing to the mind or sense; agreeable or welcome; refreshing <a grateful breeze>

Several months ago, Laura mentioned the idea of us attending an in-person photography workshop together.  I almost didn't go because I wasn't sure I could afford to take the time off from work.  But I decided that life is short and that I had to make it work.  Plus I was eager to meet this friend of mine after a 2 year online friendship.

To say that we talked non-stop would be an understatement.

To say that we laughed and cried together as we discussed our goals (both photography and life in general) would be an understatement.

To say that we walked away from our time together with a deeper appreciation for each other would be an understatement.

After the workshop, we spent a few days decompressing in Seattle and I made this photograph of my friend over breakfast.  I am especially grateful for Laura and her support of my photography, my project goals, and my family.

We also both ordered the swedish pancakes....hello, parallels!! <3

Emotions - April

1. A feeling of surprise mingled with admiration, caused by something beautiful, unexpected, unfamiliar, or inexplicable (noun)
2. Desire to know something (verb)
3. Be curious about (verb)
4. Feel admiration and amazement; marvel

This month, Laura and I decided that our theme would be Wonder.  My initial plan was to capture one of my kids as they experienced some kind of wonder, but as I'm learning with this project, you often can't really force or manufacture emotion.  About the same time I was having that revelation (insert sarcasm here, LOL), I also woke up one morning in need of some clarity and peace.  I quietly snuck out of the house while everyone was still asleep, and headed over to one of my favorite places to catch the sunrise.  And it was there that wonder snuck up on me.

Emotions - March

  1. characterized by peace; free from war, strife, commotion, violence, or disorder
  2. relating to a state or time of peace
  3. not argumentative, quarrelsome, or hostile

For March, both Laura and I decided on Peaceful as our emotion to strive to capture.  Looking back at the month, we both have been carrying some stress and worry about a handful of things, each of us seeking some peace in our lives.

I hope this post finds you feeling peaceful, too!

Check out the photograph Laura made, and see you next month!

Emotions - February

  1. the act of paying honor, as to a divine being; worship.
  2. reverent homage.
  3. fervent and devoted love.

These two have a very special bond.  I'm not sure who adores the other more. <3

I can't wait to see Laura's take on our theme this month!

Emotions - January

1. A prior action that takes into account or forestalls a later action <hired more security guards in anticipation of a large crowd>
2. The act of looking forward; especially:pleasurable expectation <looked forward with anticipation to their arrival>
3. Visualization of a future event or state; an object or form that anticipates a later type.
4. The act of preparing for something
5. A feeling of excitement about something that is going to happen

With that, I'm going to let the picture I made tell the story.
